Springfield 

The community’s “Baltimore Peak” was even the busiest commercial area outside Philly for years and became known as The Golden Mile. Today, Springfield, PA is known for its great quality of life, family-friendly amenities, short commute to downtown, and its affluence. It offers an excellent quality of life with great parks and schools. And it has tons of shopping and restaurants! Towns that border Springfield are: Media, Havertown, Ridley Park, Morton, Nether Providence and Marple Newtown.  This town is conveniently located to the Blue Route, I-95 and the PA Turnpike which makes getting around quite manageable and convenient. Springfield is approximately 9 miles from center city. It does have public transit available and some of the areas in this community are walkable. The bordering town of Media offers a rail system and 25 minute commute to Center City. 

Cost of Living

While the township is known for its affluence, it’s a surprisingly affordable place to live despite its higher cost of living. The Springfield, PA cost of living index is 119.6 which makes it almost 20% more expensive than the U.S. average. Groceries, utilities, and health care are all about 10% more expensive than the U.S. average. Transportation and housing are what really pushes the Springfield cost of living higher.

Schools

The Springfield School District is an excellent school system. In addition there are three private Catholic schools available which are: Holy Cross, St. Francis and Cardinal O’Hara. The teacher student ratio in this district is 17 to 1. It is rated 21 (496) for “Best Teachers” in the state of PA. In addition, it ranks 24 (496) for “Best School Districts in Pa” along with a 27 (496) for “Best School for Athletes”. The Springfield school districts consists of the following schools:

  • Elementary:  Sabold and Scenic Hills

  • Middle School:  E. T. Richardson Middle School

  • High School: Springfield High School 

Things to Do

Springfield is a very close knit community and you will enjoy many of the events they offer throughout the year. They have an ice skating rink available. There are two terrific golf courses which are the Springfield Country Club (public) and Rolling Green which is a private course. The Springfield Country Club also offers a membership to a beautiful pool and is the social hub of this neighborhood. 

Dining

For dining you have many wonderful options in this town. There are many small restaurants available along with dining options in the Springfield Mall. Anthony’s is an outstanding family owned restaurant that has been around for years and one of the town favorites. In addition is the new Tavola Restaurant that opened several years ago. The restaurant also draws diners to its full-service outdoor bar and lounge with fire pits and scenic views. Adorned with palm trees, the bar and lounge flaunts all-weather trappings: a misting system for warm days and glass enclosures with heat lamps for cold weather. On weekends they do have entertainment. And next to this restaurant is a beautiful new Marriott Hotel which is home to the famous Joseph Anthony Day Spa. Who knew such a little town could offer so many things!
